Rural roadway in Santa Fe County, NM.

We all know Santa Fe County is a special place.

From the acequias and open vistas that draw us to the land to the much loved traditional villages and historic communities where artists, ranchers, entrepreneurs, teachers, students, and families build their lives, it's a rich blend of cultures, histories, and traditions that have shaped this region for generations.

But like communities across the country, Santa Fe County is facing the pressures of change.

Questions about housing affordability, water resources, transportation, economic opportunity, recreation, and growth are becoming more important every year. How do we welcome future generations while protecting what makes this place special? How do we support thriving communities while preserving the landscapes, traditions, and resources that define Santa Fe County?

Those are the questions at the heart of FLOURISH SFC.

FLOURISH SFC is Santa Fe County's update to its Sustainable Growth Management Plan (SGMP), the long-range plan that helps guide decisions about land use, housing, transportation, infrastructure, economic development, natural resources, recreation, and more. The current plan was adopted in 2015, and now it's time to take a fresh look at where we are, where we're headed, and what matters most to the people who call Santa Fe County home.

"The choices we make today will influence the county's future for years to come," notes county planning team leader Herbert Foster. "That's why resident participation is at the center of the effort. Throughout the coming months, there will be opportunities to share ideas, identify priorities, discuss challenges, and help shape a vision for the future of our community."

Whether you've lived here your entire life or arrived more recently, your perspective matters.

Maybe you're thinking about whether your children or grandchildren will be able to afford to live here. Maybe you care about protecting the landscapes, traditions, and communities that make Santa Fe County special. From water to traffic, local businesses to parks and trails, we all have a stake in what the future holds.

Whatever matters most to you, your perspective belongs in this conversation.

You'll see the theme "I Am Santa Fe County" throughout this process. That's because Santa Fe County isn't defined by a map or a government boundary. It's defined by the people who live here — our stories, hopes for the future, and places we care about.

In the months ahead, FLOURISH SFC will share updates, gather ideas, and highlight how the plan is coming together. We hope you'll join the conversation and help shape what comes next.

Because you, like all of us, are Santa Fe County.
